West Sulawesi Launching the Weaving Fashion Festival
Mamuju, mandarnews.com - The West Sulawesi Tourism Office (Sulbar) held the West Sulawesi Weaving Fashion Festival Launching the 2019 Fashion Weaving Festival in the West Sulawesi Governor's Office Hall on Monday (6/24/2019).
This activity featured various clothes that were decorated until all of them were made from woven fabrics typical of various regions in West Sulawesi.
The woven fabrics include the Mandar Silk cloth from Polewali Mandar District, the Sekomandi weaving from Kalumpang Mamuju Regency, and the Mamasa typical Sambu weaving.
Head of West Sulawesi Tourism Office, Farid Wajdi said, this activity was one of the agendas of the Tourism Office to increase the number of tourists visiting West Sulawesi.
"We do this as a form of promotion, so that the diverse cultural wealth of West Sulawesi can be seen by the public as an encouragement to increase tourism visits to West Sulawesi," said Farid.
He explained, the main problem of tourism in West Sulawesi is the relatively low number of visits, which is around 750 tourists in 2018.
"Our target is to increase ten percent in 2019 to 800 tourists," said Farid.
The Regional Secretary of West Sulawesi Province, Muhummad Idris, who attended the event explained that this activity was part of an effort to preserve culture and tradition.
"At the same time containing economic value born of creativity weaving in various forms, one of which is fashion," added Muhammad Idris.
He also congratulated the organizers, hopefully this activity would be part of caring for and preserving the culture and traditions of West Sulawesi.
So, he continued, our hope from these various efforts, weaving can become one of the leading commodities in the future of West Sulawesi. (Sugiarto)
